Outpatient Surgery & Procedure Companion
Pasco & Pinellas Counties, FL
No one to take you home
after sedation?
Outpatient surgery centers require a responsible adult who stays through check-in and discharge — not a rideshare, not a cab.
I'm Peter, founder of Kavia. AHCA-licensed, insured, and owner-operated in Port Richey. The same person you book with is the person who shows up.

Arranging this for a parent? I coordinate directly with them and keep you informed throughout the day.
Hiring a professional is exactly what capable, independent adults do.
Why I'm here.
I'm Peter. I started Kavia after watching my uncle miss two scheduled surgeries — no one to drive, no one to wait, no plan for the day. He'd done the hard part. The logistics undid him.
There's enough stress before they cut you open. You shouldn't have to solve that too.
I spent years caring for my father through a long disability and sitting with my mother through two cancers. I know that room. I'm a 600-hour certified yoga teacher — trained to show up, stay calm, and be present when it counts. I live in Port Richey. I started Kavia so the next person like my uncle has someone there.
My mom had cataract surgery on her right eye and didn't want to ask me to fly down from Boston. Peter picked her up at 7 a.m., stopped at the pharmacy first so her after-surgery medications were ready at home, stayed through the whole procedure, and walked her inside her front door. He called me from her porch — said she was already on the couch with the cat. I'd definitely book him again the next time my mom needs a procedure.
Two options. One question.
Most people go with Full Companion — it covers everything. Not sure which fits? I confirm your facility's requirements before your date.

Simple process.
Nothing left to figure out on your own.
Full Companion covers all 7 steps — pickup at home through drop-off.
Discharge Companion covers booking (steps 1–4) and discharge onward (steps 6–7). No morning pickup or wait.
What makes this different from everything else.
The person you spoke to is the person who shows up.
You call Peter, Peter books it, Peter walks through your door. When you come out of recovery, you'll recognize the face. No dispatch. No staffing pool. No stranger.
Handles the day so nothing falls through.
Every facility called in advance. Every discharge process understood before your day. No improvising on your time. When Peter arrives, he already has what he needs.
Prepared before you arrive.
Before your day, Peter knows the parking, the check-in desk, and what the nursing staff needs at discharge. He's not figuring it out when you get there — he already has.

Everything you'd want to know before you book.
Rideshare drivers don't wait, don't check in, and aren't accepted as a responsible adult by most facilities — many procedures legally require a qualified adult to take the handoff from the nursing staff. Kavia is a registered, insured companion service. I handle the entire day, not just the ride home.
For Full Companion: yes. I check in with you as your registered responsible adult and stay close through the entire procedure — on-site or nearby, and in contact with the nursing staff. For Discharge Companion: I arrive before your discharge and receive you directly from the nursing staff — no check-in wait.
Full Companion is a flat rate. The price doesn't change based on how long your procedure takes. I stay until you're discharged and home. Surgical delays are part of the job.
Yes. General liability insurance with a non-owned auto rider that specifically covers patient transport in a personal vehicle. Background-checked. Registered with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (FL AHCA HCS) — the state body that oversees companion services under Chapter 400 of Florida Statutes. Documentation available on request.
I have a trained backup companion on standby. If I'm unable to make your appointment for any reason — illness, emergency, anything — my backup will show up instead at the exact same time. Same rate, same quality of care, same commitment to your day. You're covered either way. I've never needed to use this, but I built it in because your procedure day isn't negotiable.
If you experience any medical distress, I call 911 immediately and stay with you until emergency services arrive. I'm trained in basic first aid and CPR. My role is to get help fast and stay present — I'm not a medical provider, but I'm prepared for this exact situation.
On the way home, I stop at a pharmacy near the facility to fill any discharge prescriptions. Included in both tiers — not an add-on. If there's no prescription, you go straight home.
Most likely yes. Outpatient surgery companion services qualify as a medical expense under most HSA and FSA plans. You pay via Stripe and receive a detailed receipt — that's typically all your plan administrator needs. Confirm with your administrator before booking if you want to be certain about your specific plan.
No. We collect only what's needed to coordinate your day — your procedure date, facility, and an emergency contact. We don't store medical records and we never share your information.
Your surgeon's timeline comes first. If your physician postpones or reschedules your procedure, I'll move your booking to your new date at no charge. If you need to cancel for any other reason within 24 hours of your appointment, the full amount becomes a service credit — good for one year. This protects both of us if plans change at the last minute. If you cancel more than 24 hours in advance, full refund, no questions.
Procedure dates move — just let me know as soon as yours does. Rescheduling terms are included in your booking confirmation. The earlier you reach out, the easier it is to hold the new date.
Most facilities require a competent adult — usually 18+ — who can wait through the procedure, receive your discharge instructions directly from the nursing staff, and get you home safely. They typically can't be a paid driver-only service like Uber or Lyft, and many facilities won't release you to anyone they can't identify by name in advance. As your registered companion, I check in under your name, take the handoff, and stay with you through the door at home.
Any outpatient procedure that requires a responsible adult — colonoscopy, cataract surgery, MOHS, dental sedation under IV/oral, GI endoscopy, knee arthroscopy, hernia repair, orthopedic injections, plastic procedures, and more. If your physician told you to bring someone, I'm that someone. Tell me your procedure when you book and I'll confirm I've covered the facility before your day.
Sooner is better — ideally as soon as your procedure is on the calendar. Most clients book 1–4 weeks ahead. I can sometimes accommodate shorter notice if my schedule has room, but the earlier you book, the more certain your date is locked in.
Full Companion ($245, was $345) is door-to-door — I pick you up at home, check in as your responsible adult, stay through the procedure, take the discharge handoff, stop at the pharmacy, and walk you inside at home. Discharge Companion ($195, was $295) covers only the back half — I arrive before your discharge, take the handoff from nursing, pharmacy stop, drop you home. Most people choose Full Companion because most facilities require a registered adult at check-in. Discharge Companion only fits when your facility allows solo check-in.
